Hastings 290C
After using it the first time I found it was impossible to snuff the coals as the temperature rose. I ended up having to leave the lid open for an extended period to avoid the grill staying in the red temperature zone. The front door for the firebox closest to the coals (about half full only) warped slightly on the first use. I guess it needs to be seasoned but I expect it to hold up to normal use easily and I should be able to snuff the fire to reduce the temperature without modifying the grill out of the box.
Hi Robert! We encourage you to watch our HB Fire Management video along with our most recent season of cooking videos done on a Hastings. Units this size have a different learning curve due to the amount of air inside the chamber and they definitely require some time to season due to being fully stainless steel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yMO-SRKul4&t=46s
Size does matter when you're cooking lots of food. Hastings is the way to go 100% I love it!
I have had mine for about 10 years and I cook on it at least 4 times a week so it has been well used to say the least. This thing is one of my prize possessions. I can cook for large crowds and the entire meal. Temperature control is amazing with the 2 heat zones. If you have cooked it anywhere I have probably cooked it on this as well.this thing is bullet proof and built to last a lifetime. If you feed a small army and want to feed them well this is the grill for you. It is a bit pricey but worth every cent.
Best feature, design and build quality of any BBQ. Period.
