I grew up BBQing on my dads Hasty Bake. We got a Legacy 131 for a wedding gift from my parents 23 years ago and after all that time and harsh Minnesota winters it was time for a new BBQ.
We went with the stainless steel Legacy 132 this time and I expect that this BBQ will outlive me.
Hasty Bake Legacy has all the things I was looking for. My favorite feature is having a charcoal grill with temperature control! Because you can move the heat source closer/further from the meat. I love the custom grate cleaner as it makes cleaning easy and I don't have to mess with wire brushes. I always wanted a santa maria type grill but noticed with those grills the grates aren't very secure. With the Legacy it's the firebox that moves so the grate stays nice and secure. Cleaning up the ash is also very simple. Another one of my favorite things is the flavor! People say the Legacy has a lot more hot air movement around the meat than say a kamado and it seems true to me...at least based on the ribs I made on it that were some of the best ribs i've ever made.
I found the Legacy 132 during my 10-year search for an affordable S.S. Santa Maria-style grill. After a month with this thing, I can’t imagine trying to scoop ash off fire bricks or clean V-shaped grates (not to be confused with Hasty Bake’s grease drain system which DOES work and IS easy to clean). The ash pan, easy lighting, and ability to sear, bake or smoke make this the easy every-day grill.
We finally broke down and shipped a hasty to our cabin in Minnesota! Loving it - cooked 8 racks of ribs for the Fourth of July !!
Beautiful bbq, made a perfect meal the first time . The heat is easy to control and the flavor was great
